Movement

Movement is a very important element of 4d media, it is described as the shift of an object or shape in a way to affect composition and focus. Movement can be used in many different ways to make a number of projects. if you move the viewers eyes in one direction, you would use directional movement, however oppositional movement moves eyes in the opposite direction. having opposing forces moving forward and away form each other is a way to direct the viewers eyes all over the screen. Stillness, or the absence of movement,  is also important in 4d. Stillness can be used in contrast to both types of movement, and helps with variety in a project.

Movement can be compared to sound, in the way that there are different parts to it. Like sound, movement can be separated by attack, sustain, and decay. the attack part of the movement would be when the movement starts in full motion, like when a fight starts out between two characters. The sustain part of the movement is while the fight is happening, and all of the movement is staying pretty consistent. finally the decay part of the movement would be as the movement stops or begins to stop, like when the fight between the two characters gets resolved or the actual fighting stops. When it comes to film and video, not only can the characters be recorded moving, but the camera can move as well. Pans, tilts, or tracking/dolly shots can all be utilized in a way to make a unique and dynamic video. Zooming in can put more focus on a subject, or zooming out can emphasize the environment around a character. Movement is important in all 4d media, and helps to create multiple different projects.

Dolly zoom in Jaws (1975)

This shot in Jaws features a Dolly zoom. the camera moves away, but zooms in at the same time. this creates an unsettling effect. in this scene the main character realizes something bad is about to happen, and I like how to Dolly Zoom creates this sense of uncertainty in this shot.
