 Time:

Time is very different than every other measurement and form of art. Time is defined as continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole. When encountering time with art, art is added with the concept of change and some kind of measurement of time. 4D art includes time because it's different in comparison with flat or even 3D art. It takes up a different kind of space - a space that we can't get back or return - and that is what makes time art so unique. Time is also measured in different ways, as discussed by the article. There is experienced time, running time, biological time, and digital time. These different kinds of time all add up to make what we perceive as time and time in art.

O Superman - by Laurie Anderson is an example of time art and how time affects our concept of art and what we are perceiving. Laurie manages to use light, sound, emotions, and time to create a song that gives you chills and makes you wonder what the heck it's about. She uses such a unique way of creating music, including her invention of the soundstick.

Sound:

We might not think of it in this way, but sound is simply vibrations, while silence is the absence of those same vibrations. There are three main kinds of sound. These are: non-synchronous sounds, asynchronous sound, and diegetic sound. Non-synchronous sounds are sounds that are playing but the source of the sound is not visible, like video game music or music in movies without the source being shown. These are used a lot in movies and film media in general. Asynchronous sound is when the sound doesn't match the visual picture. It gives you an idea of something that is happening outside of the current scene. It creates more of a story. Diegetic sounds are sounds that come directly from the source, like the voice of people talking or noises from an animal or an instrument.

The book talks more about specific movies, songs, and creators that use these three kinds of sound to create an experience for the reader.

An example that I can think of would be Minecraft and it's soundtrack. I have spent so many hours on Minecraft that I probably know the whole soundtrack. It's very relaxing and it's an example of not knowing the source of where the music is, but you know that it's being played and it might even add to the story.

Movement:

The article states that movement is "a shift or variation in the location of an object, light, or sound". There are two different kinds of movement, which are successional movement and oppositional movement. Successional movement is used to lead the viewer's eye in one direction, while oppositional movement is the opposite, leading the eye in another direction. There are specific parts of movement, including: attach, sustain, decay, and recoiling into the base of support. An object's center of gravity is what dictates that object's movements. Gestures are the movements made by a part of the whole object. These are the basic ideas of movement and the terminology for the action itself. Movement is a fun combination of all different kinds of art, because movement is involved in the creation of all art of all kinds.

Animated GIFS are a great example of movement because they use the same movements that repeat over and over again. There also can't be a movie or a video without movement. Besides the actual subject of the video or film moving, the camera also has to move to make a movie. These camera moving techniques include panning, tilting, tracking, and zooming. All of these actions involve moving the camera to get a different motion in the video. The book cites "The Wizard of Oz" as an example, as the camera zooms out at the end to reveal that Dorothy is home. This use of the camera zooming out shows the whole picture, revealing that the story has come to a close.

I think of this scene when learning about movement. Not only are there fantastic camera views, but the characters also move in a really neat way for the story.
