Time:

Time has many different definitions but the most known one is the progression of events from the past through the present, and further into the future. In today's world we are always trying to control time to lengthen our lives. There are several different types of time including measured time, experienced time, running time, biological time, and digital time. Measured time refers to actual time. It can be measured in season, years, or the passing of minutes. With experienced time it refers to the amount of time that has passed. What might feel like 60 minutes can actually be only 10 minutes. Running time deals with a live event or video piece that has a continuous story to it. With biological time has to deal with whether we feel awake, tired, or hungry. It mainly deals with our emotions and what reaction we have to it. Lastly, digital time works with technology and has an awareness of time. With this it shows that there are many different types of time and with being an artist it is crucial of you to be able to choose the one that will benefit your work well.

Emmanuelle Moureaux's, COLOR OF TIME:

I really enjoyed how the artist used colors and numbers to emphasis the amount of time a person can have. With it starting out as bright and vibrant colors to it gradually going to black makes you seem that life can be beautiful and have a lot of color than it can just end in darkness. Or it can take you through what a day feels like living on earth because you have the sunrise then you have darkness to signify the nighttime. It feels that it has some sort of story to it and as you stare at it longer you want to be able to understand the artwork. If I were to visit this installation art, I would probably spend a lot of time looking and observing it to find the story behind it.

Sound:

Sound can be perceived as many things as possible. You can hear sound by ear, and it can come from any sounds like, speaking, singing, even a car backfiring. Silence is sound's opposite. John Cage stated that there are no such things as true silence. Because if you were to go into a room completely alone and silent then you will still be able to hear your heartbeat and breathing. Synchronous, nonsynchronous, asynchronous, diegetic, and non-diegetic are varieties of groupings depending on your point of view. Synchronous sounds can be described as a timed designated performance space like a teapot whistling. Nonsynchronous sounds can be on stage or off stage while you cannot see where the source is coming from. Asynchronous sounds are sounds that don't match with what we can visibly see. Diegetic and non-diegetic are actional and commentary sounds.

Artist: David Heald via the Guggenheim

I like this piece of artwork because it is a space that you can enter and enjoy the peace and quiet. With this piece they use spiky sound absorbers to create an atmosphere of almost total silence. Which is unique thing to do because the building that they have it in can seem noisy and crowded. With having this designated area, it is a great space to have when people get too exhausted and/or need a place to cool down.

Movement:

Movement is a key function in any 4D works. Specifically, absence or stillness movement. There are many great examples of movement in artwork including Chair Dane II, FIND EACH OTHER, Begin There, and Ordinary Batman Adventures are just a few examples of how some artists used movement. There are different ways you can interpret movement. You can use successional movement which is a movement that leads the eyes in one directional movement. Then there is oppositional movement which is the opposite of successional movement in which it leads the eyes in a different direction. Gestures are also involved with movement. Artists use gestures to show a sense of motion like extending or rotating a person's arm.

Artist: Pia Mannikko, Deja Vu

I like that this piece of art shows a good example of movement in the human form. It shows the movement of what looks to be a man walking around trying to find something. I do wish that there were some pops of color every now and then in this piece. I learned that with this piece the artist also made different movements of other people as well. This is just one piece of art out of many others. To create this piece of art she took photographs of several artists and mapped out their movement.
